Another imaginary one. Lots of boats & water lately. Ive said for awhile i think water represents emotions; if youre way down in the area where theres no sunlight thats your unconscious primal self experience. The closer you get to the surface the more your thoughts/emotions become conscious and you're able to study them. Land is reasoning. Boats are attempts at reasoning with chances of working with and sailing on emotion or just getting wrecked. I think this painting is particularly interesting because you dont know if the figure is on land or wading through shallower water. Cant tell if they got off the boat or are passing it by. I love the jug and interpret it as an attempt to contain and handle small experiences of emotion at a time. Which has basically been my life-long attempt.
